Antwerp is going for a better and healthier air and will ban the most polluting vehicles in the city center starting February 1, 2017. Are you planning to come to Antwerp with your vehicle? Or do you have customers traveling to Antwerp with their car or motorhome? Find out what the low-emission zone means for you and your customers.
The low-emission zone (LEZ) covers the entire inner city and part of Linkeroever. The zone is indicated by its own traffic sign.
Can my vehicle enter the zone?
Whether or not your vehicle may enter the zone depends on the Euro standard. Click here for the online test that quickly tells you whether or not your vehicle is allowed or check the table below.
The check is done with cameras with license plate recognition. If you enter the zone with a non-permitted vehicle, you will be fined.
Compulsory registration for foreign license plates (except Dutch)
Do you want to drive a vehicle with a foreign license plate (non-Belgian and non-Dutch) into the zone? Then you must register once via this tool, even if your vehicle is allowed to enter the zone. This is free of charge and can be done up to 24 hours after entering the zone. If you have an authorized vehicle with a Dutch license plate, then you do not need to register.
Temporary admission for some vehicles
Some vehicles that do not meet the conditions can apply for temporary admission for a fee. These are, for example, diesel vehicles with Euronorm 3 without a particulate filter or vehicles older than 40 years. You must apply for this authorization in advance at https://www.slimnaarantwerpen.be/nl/lez.
LEZ day pass
Do you have a vehicle that does not meet the conditions and does not qualify for temporary admission? And do you still want to drive your vehicle into the zone? Then you can purchase an LEZ day pass up to eight times a year. This is available online or for sale at parking meters in the downtown area.
